What's Blooming on July 4?

The better question might be: What isn’t blooming this Independence Day? After our slow, slow start to the gardening season, the plants are finally getting the sun they need. Here are just a few plants we’ve seen in bloom this week:

water lily
A beautiful plant on a pretty pond in St. Anthony Park in St. Paul.
delphinium
A gorgeous delphinium in bloom.

tomato flower
Tomatoes are flowering, which means fruit is not far behind. Notice the little hairs on the stems — if placed underground, they would become roots.

passionflower
While not hardy to our zone, many Minnesota gardeners coax passionflower into bloom. This one was in an amazing garden in Edina.
dahlia
A perfect dahlia.
