25 Garden Instagrammers We Love

Are you on Instagram? It’s the nicer social media, filled with pictures of delicious food, cute dogs and cats and lots and lots of plants. There are so many great gardeners on Instagram that we know we’ll miss a few. But here are 25 garden Instagrammers—mostly from the North— that we love. Tell us who else we should follow!

This is Us

@mnhort@mnhort images — This is us, and if you like pictures of northern gardens, plants and the occasional shot of what we are up to around the state, join us!

@mynortherngarden_mary This is us, too. It’s the account of Mary Schier, editor of Northern Gardener magazine. Lots of plants, a few travel photos and once in awhile Lola, the bad dog.

Several of our writers and photographers also have garden-centric Instagram accounts, including @rhondafleminghayes (pollinators galore), @gardendrama (Eric Johnson’s love of sheds is real!), @tracy_walsh_garden_photography (she’s won multiple awards for here garden photos), @chiotsrun (Susy lives in Maine and has a huge garden) and @riedelphoto, the account of master gardener and photographer Michelle Mero Reidel — plants, but lots of wedding photos, too.

Minnesota Gardeners

There are so many great Minnesota Instagram accounts that have a garden focus that it’s hard to name just a few. Here are some favorites:

@seedtofork — Food gardening on a grand scale, plus aerial photography from time to time. (Meg, the proprietor at seedtofork, has an article in our next issue of Northern Gardener.)

@minnesotagardener — Lots of plant closeups from a northern perspective.

@milkweed.and.daisies — A Minnesota gal showing lots of photos of cut flowers, vegetables and northern fun.

@markfk59 — Plants with urban flair and a few cuff links and other stylish objects.

@mymngarden — She’s raising a garden, kids and monarch butterflies.

@forksinthedirt — Beautiful photography of gardens, local food and some super cute chickens.

Minnesota Pros

We follow a number of garden designers, plant companies, garden centers and others who are pros in the garden. We couldn’t list all of our favorite garden centers to follow (that would take a list of 100!), but look up your local center’s name. Odds are they have an insta account that’s filled with plant beauty.

Here are a few other pros you may not have heard of:

@hothousehort — Minnesota based garden designer — beautiful shots here.

@sacredspacegardensmn — Another independent garden designer. Love her containers.

@minnesotafromscratch — Canning expert and author with plenty of photos of her gardens as well as her recipes.

@northernaturalgardens — This garden designing couple specializes in native plant landscaping. Pretty and great for pollinators.

@sarahbuerkley — Sarah is a garden designer who also creates floral arrangements. If bouquets are your thing, follow her!

Beyond Minnesota

Of course, the Internet knows no state lines, and there are wonderful garden photographers, bloggers and designers all over the world. Check these out:

@thehappygardeninglife — This account is a compilation of some of the best garden images on Instagram.

@impatientgardener — Erin is a master gardener on the warm side of Wisconsin near Lake Michigan. Her photos are bathed in light, and she has a pretty good youtube channel, too.

@caseylynnlawrence — Casey is another Wisconsinite, who posts stunning photos of vegetables, cut flowers and landscapes.

@reddirtramblings — A garden writer from Oklahoma, Dee Nash is a terrific photographer. Expect lots of bees, plants and travel.

@homesteadbrooklyn — Summer Rayne Oakes lives in Brooklyn with a chicken, used to work as a fashion model but has degrees in environmental science and entomology. Great photos and info from this renaissance plant lover.

@kissmyaster — This Chicago-based garden speaker and writer loves all things sustainable and vintage. For pure fun, you cannot beat her account.

@deannacat3 — This California-based gardener, food and health blogger has beautifully styled photos, sometimes of plants we cannot grow in Minnesota. Hold your envy and admire the beauty.

Which are your favorite Instagram accounts for gardeners? We’d love to follow them!

Please check out my account @kavigarden. I am a Minnesota organic gardener. My husband and I have been gardeners for 3 decades and love to cook from the garden as much as possible and have been trying to lower our carbon footprint. I also love food art and have tried to incorporate it into my love of gardening and cooking on my page. Thank you for all the account suggestions above, I have followed so many of them.
