Garden Gifts at the Minnesota State Fair

merchandise-collage-shirthatglovesThe MSHS booth at the Minnesota State Fair is a popular place to buy garden gifts for others or yourself. The booth features lots of books and fun garden T-shirts, but also gloves, a few garden tools and lots of artwork to display in your garden.

I checked in with the staff at the booth to ask what have been our big sellers this year.

The 2015 Minnesota Gardening Calendar is perhaps our No. 1 seller. We have lots of people stop by to say they are buying it for their mother for Christmas. If you visit the University of Minnesota Master Gardeners booth first, you can pick up a $2 off coupon for the calendar, which normally retails for $14.95.

MNandWIGettingStartedGardenGuideAmong books, we see lots of people interested in how-to books, such as the Minnesota and Wisconsin Getting Started Gardening Guide and Melinda Myers’ recently revised Month by Month Gardening in Minnesota. For new gardeners, both of these books offer step-by-step instructions on how to set up and maintain a great garden. Joel Karsten’s Straw Bale Gardening is also popular and Joel will be doing some presentations at The Dirt stage, which is right behind our booth.

We also have lots of T-shirts — wolves, winter-themed shirts and wildflower shirts are especially popular.

If you are a member of MSHS, you get a 15 percent discount on merchandise, including members who sign up at the fair. We’ll be at our booth from 9 to 9 until the end of the fair on Labor Day. Hope to see you there!
