What an honor it was for MSHS and its staff to receive the 10th Annual Award from Terrace Horticultural Books at Terrace’s annual Fall Open House Nov. 12.

The award is given annually by Kent Petterson, owner of Terrace Horticultural Books, to an individual or organization for their outstanding contributions to horticulture in our area. MSHS earned the award in honor of its 150th anniversary sharing garden knowledge and representing the interests of gardeners in Minnesota. Previous MSHS-affiliated winners include volunteers extraordinaire Jerry and Lee Shannon, former MSHS president Mary McGuire Lerman and columnist, author and former Northern Gardener editor Lynn Steiner.

If you have not visited Terrace Horticultural Books and you love gardening or reading or both, please check it out. With 15,000 books or more on the shelves as well as gardening ephemera, the store is a treat for the gardening reader or reading gardener.  It’s located on the first floor of a charming Victorian house in a residential neighborhood and in the summer it is surrounded by gardens.  Kent is something of a celebrity among gardening bibliophiles. In fact, when Martha Stewart visited the Twin Cities a few years ago, the only place she wanted to visit was Terrace Horticultural Books!

Our sincere thanks to Kent for this honor and to all of the staff and volunteers who have worked with MSHS over the years. We really could not do what we do without you!
