Have you ever wanted to try starting herbs, vegetables or annual flowers from seed but not been sure where to start? Or maybe you tried indoor seed starting but were disappointed with the results.

MSHS is offering a class geared for anyone who wants to learn how to start seeds successfully indoors. To be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 3 at the MSHS offices in Roseville, the class will cover the essentials for successful seed starting, including a variety of growing mediums to choose from, containers, lights, even how to propagate plants from cuttings.

The class costs only $15 for MSHS members ($20 for nonmembers) and is taught by two expert seed starters, Marty Bergland and Tom McKusick. Marty is a lifelong gardener and retired University of Minnesota Extension Master Gardener. She owns Heirloom House MN, helped MSHS found its Garden-in-a-Box program and is a frequent teacher at the Minneapolis Farmers’ Market. Tom is publisher of Northern Gardener magazine and well-known to readers of this blog for his posts on growing tomatoes. Each year, he starts up to 100 different varieties of tomatoes from seeds as well as peppers, lettuce and other plants including in the MSHS community garden.
