Celebrate the Holidays with MSHS

Wasn’t Halloween just last week? I guess it was, but it’s not too early to plan your holiday decor and gift giving with some help from MSHS.

holidays container class

Make a great front door container for the holidays at our container make and take.

This year, we’re hosting several events that will get you excited about the upcoming holidays, including two this week. On Thursday, we’re sponsoring a Make & Take Evergreen Container class with our friends at Wagners Greenhouses in Minneapolis. The class runs from noon to 1:30, making it the perfect lunch time fun for friends or workmates. In this class, you’ll work with a variety of greens including red and white pine, cedar, balsam and dogwood to create an eye-catching evergreen container. Included is your choice of red or yellow dogwood to add height and color to your container. You can enhance  your winter container with purchases from Wagner’s including natural products like winterberry, pinecones, pods and birch branches, or colorful baubles to go glitter and glam.  Please bring your gardening gloves and pruners. Dress warm as we will be working in the greenhouse and the forecast is a bit chilly. The class is $40 for MSHS members; $45 for nonmembers.

Then, on Saturday, Nov. 9, we’ll be part of the Minneapolis Holiday Boutique, a huge shopping event for gifts, holiday decor and more, being held at U.S. Bank Stadium. We have a special Make & Take Holiday Swag that you can make for only $20. We’ll be located at the Legacy Gate at the entrance to the event on Saturday afternoon, 1 to 5 p.m. Floral designer Jenn Hovland is helping us with the event, which will give you the chance to make your own unique swag. Watch the video below to see Jenn demonstrate. Please note: the boutique is a three-day event and we will be there Saturday afternoon only.

The next weekend, on Sunday, Nov. 17, we’ll be having a special Make & Take Thanksgiving Centerpiece class at Bad Weather Brewery. The class is from 4 to 5:30 p.m. and registration includes a house beer or soda. During this class, you will  rcceate a beautiful fresh floral design for the holidays using an abundance of autumn flowers. You will be revitalized with the textures and colors of these beauties  and greens. This design could be a hostess gift or adorn your table for the Thanksgiving holiday. It’s a perfect chance for friends and family to get together to make something beautiful. The cost is $40 for MSHS members, $45 for nonmembers.

Finally, on Saturday, Nov. 23, we’ll be having the annual MSHS Holiday Open House at our new office space at 1935 County Rd. B2 West in Roseville. (We’re in an office building just west of Rosedale and across County Road B2 from the strip mall with Hobby Lobby and Total Wine in it.) The Open House will include a variety of vendors of garden themed books and decor, and we’ll have tools, socks and some of our super popular T-shirts from the Minnesota State Fair. Perfect gifts for the holidays—and we have a special one-day only, in-person only price on gift memberships and subscriptions. We’re also hosting a class that day, a Holiday Wreath Make & Take, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. In this class, we will all work with the same wreath kit from Mickman Brothers. We will lead you through a fun process of thinking creatively and individualizing your wreath. Please bring your own wire cutter and ribbon scissors if you have them. If you have special items you’d like add to your wreath, please bring them too.

With all these MSHS events, by the time Thanksgiving rolls around, you’ll be done with your holiday shopping and decorating. We hope to see you in November!
