Partner Profile: TCALT

We’re shining a spotlight on this organization because they’re our valuable partner in delivering educational resources to northern gardeners of all ages and skill levels. This initiative is funded in part by a three-year Community Food Projects Grant.

The Twin Cities Community Agricultural Land Trust (TCALT) is a non-profit organization that aims to secure and protect land for sustainable agriculture in the Twin Cities region of Minnesota. TCALT works to acquire land, either through purchase or donation, and then leases it to farmers who are committed to sustainable farming practices. The organization ensures that the land remains affordable and accessible to farmers, even as property values rise. By doing so, TCALT helps to prevent the conversion of agricultural land into other uses, such as urban development.

TCALT’s overall mission? To support local food systems, promote sustainable agriculture and increase access to healthy food for all members of the community. In addition to protecting land for farming, the organization also provides education and outreach programs to raise awareness about the importance of sustainable agriculture and the benefits of local food systems. TCALT is working to build a more resilient, equitable and sustainable food system in the Twin Cities, and to promote the long-term health and well-being of its communities.

They collaborate with the Minnesota Horticultural Society to promote sustainable agriculture and local food systems in the Twin Cities. Together, TCALT and MSHS are building a strong, resilient and equitable food system that supports local farmers, strengthens communities and promotes the health and well-being of all Minnesotans.
