GIAB Participant Criteria

Who can participate

Because GIAB is wildly popular, offered at no cost to participants and resources are limited, only select applicants will receive gardening kits. See if your nonprofit or community organization qualifies to apply:

  • Supports youth and low-income families, educating about the benefits of growing vegetables and providing easy, affordable access to healthy foods
  • Has a significant number of participants who can actively garden (plant, water, weed and harvest)
  • Has multiple staff or volunteers dedicated to assisting GIAB participants
  • Can commit to participate in GIAB and make good use of plants, supplies and growing support for three years

  • Must have easy access to water. Overhead or sprinkler watering is not recommended.
