Volunteering with MSHS
Join the MSHS team by volunteering with us.
We offer a wide variety of positions to match your interests and schedule—some are one-time events, some are ongoing—and you will be supporting our mission to educate northern gardeners.
Volunteer Position Descriptions
MSHS events like the State Fair are an important opportunity to increase MSHS membership. Membership volunteers are responsible for introducing visitors to the benefits of MSHS membership and assisting our current members with their membership renewals. All volunteers receive information about any special offers before the date of their shift. If you are volunteering for us at the State Fair, we ask you to familiarize yourself with this information before you arrive for your shift.
MSHS brings merchandise to sell from our store in Roseville to many of the events at which we exhibit. Volunteer merchandise assistants should assist MSHS staff with sales and restocking merchandise and help the cashier by packaging the items purchased at check out. MSHS members receive a 15% discount on all our merchandise, year-round, so merchandise assistants should ask visitors if they are members of MSHS and let them know about the discount.
MSHS Educational Display
MSHS has an educational display at the State Fair every year. Volunteers in this position monitor the booth, answer questions from visitors about the display and may refer visitors to the master gardener booth for plant questions.
MSHS Plant Show
Plant show volunteers greet visitors and monitor the display during the first two days of the fair. They are encouraged to answer questions as they can, or to direct the person to other sources of information. The volunteers are encouraged to take turns and walk around the plant show and to ask folks not to touch the plants as needed. For 2018, the volunteer table may be farther back in the room, not up by the entrance.
