Frequently Asked Questions

How do I make a donation?

To make a donation, choose the amount you wish to donate and specify if it is a one-time or recurring contribution. After filling in your personal and payment details, review your information for accuracy and submit your donation. You will receive an immediate confirmation via email once your donation is processed. Note: Classy, our third-party donation provider, will create an account for tracking purposes. This is not the same as your northerngardener.org account.

What payment methods are accepted?

We accept various payment methods for your convenience. These include bank transfers and major credit cards such as Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover. You can also donate via Apple Pay or Google Pay (depending on your browser settings), Paypal and Venmo, or send a check or money order by mail. If you wish to use other payment methods, please contact our support team for assistance.

Can I make a donation in honor or memory of someone?

Absolutely! You can make a donation in honor or memory of someone special. On our donation form, you will find an option to dedicate your donation. Please provide the name of the person you’re honoring or remembering, and if you wish, include a personal message. We also offer the option to notify a family member or friend about your thoughtful gesture via email or postal mail.

How do I cancel or modify a recurring donation?

To cancel or modify a recurring donation, please contact our donor support team directly. Provide them with your donation details and specify whether you wish to cancel the recurring donation or adjust the amount or frequency. Our team will assist you with the changes and ensure that your preferences are updated promptly.

Is this donation tax deductible?

Yes, your donation to the Minnesota Horticultural Society is tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law, as we are a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. However, we recommend consulting with a tax professional for specific advice regarding the deductibility of your donation, as individual circumstances can vary.

How do I get a receipt for my donation for tax purposes?

Upon completing your donation, you will automatically receive an email confirmation that serves as your receipt for tax purposes. This receipt will include the date of the donation, the amount, and our organization’s name. If you require a physical copy or if you haven’t received your email receipt, please contact our support team: info@northerngardener.org, providing the details of your donation, and we will gladly assist you in obtaining a copy.

What is the organization’s tax identification number?

Our organization’s Federal Tax Identification Number, also known as an Employer Identification Number (EIN), is 41-0635199. This number is used for tax purposes and should be included in your tax documentation when claiming a deduction for your donation.

Where does my donation go?

By default, your donation will be entered into our General Fund for use anywhere needs arise. Typically, these will include our seasonal signature programs, Garden-in-a-Box and Minnesota Green. The General Fund also supports our education, publication, membership, staffing and web development efforts. As we create specific funds, you will begin to see an option to dedicate your donation to the fund of your choice.

Will my name and donation amount be published or kept private?

Respecting our donors’ privacy is a priority for us. By default, we will publish your name and donation amount on any public fundraising pages, though you may opt to hide one or both. When filling out your information, you will see two checkboxes beneath your name to keep your name and/or donation anonymous.

How do you protect my personal information?

We are committed to protecting the privacy and security of our donors’ personal information. We use industry-standard security measures to protect your data from unauthorized access. This includes secure server software for all transactions and the safe storage of personal information. We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to others. Our privacy policy provides detailed information on how your data is used and protected.

How can I see if my employer will match my donation?

When filling out the form, you will have the option to see if your employer will match your donation after selecting your donation amount and schedule. Type in your employer’s name; if they appear, great! We’ll offer you more details on your company’s matching gift program. If not, you will need to contact your employer directly for more information.
