About Stephen

I am a retired professor (Emeritus) from the joint biology department of the College of St. Benedict and Saint John’s University.  I taught courses in plant physiology, economic botany, plant systematics, and introductory biology. I received my PhD from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. I have been involved with maple syrup production at Saint John’s for more than 25 years. I have a small hobby farm where I raise an assortment of fruits, veggies and nuts (especially hazelnuts).
