SUMMARY:Resilient landscape horticulture field day
DESCRIPTION:Learn about the research addressing today’s most pressing landscape challenges. This field day highlights innovative solutions for plant health\, production efficiency\, and cold-hardy genetics.Visit with the UMN Resilient Landscape research team and their partners for a deep dive into current studies. Optional guided tours of peony and weigela research plots are also available at an additional cost. See the bottom of this page for more information. \nThis event is open to the public and offers a great opportunity for Q&A with the scientists behind the work. \nTopics include:\n\nJumping worms: learn how to identify soil that is not impacted by jumping worms versus soil that has been impacted by jumping worms.\nPrairie willows: see and feel the two types of prairie willow that grow well in Minnesota.\nMouse ear disorder: view mouse ear disorder on common plants and learn about how to treat it.\nBlack walnut: learn about tapping black walnut trees.\nRed star rust on apples: learn the differences between red star rust and cedar apple rust\, and see the equipment the researchers use to catch spores for identification.\nJapanese beetles: learn about the interaction between birch trees and Japanese beetles\, and how Japanese beetle research is currently conducted.\n\n\nAudience\nOpen to the public. \n\n\nCost\nGeneral entrance fee into the Arb: $20 online or $25 at the gate for non-Arboretum members \nFree for Arboretum members \nRegistration\nRegistration for the indoor event is not required\, but nonmembers must pay for Arb admission. Witness the weigela breeding process firsthand and see how we evaluate peonies for landscape success. Space is limited\, and tickets are required for the field tour. \nThe tour is on very uneven ground\, no seating is available at the research plot\, and there is limited access to restrooms. \nCost\n\nNonmembers: $35 ($15 for the tour plus $20 gate admission)\nMembers: $15\n\nThis ticket includes the entrance fee into the UMN Landscape Arboretum for the entire day\, so do not use the link above to buy your ticket. \nRegistration\nUse the links below to register. \nGuided Peony and Weigela Plot Tour Bus #1\, 10-11:55 a.m. \nGuided Peony and Weigela Plot Tour Bus #2\, 11 a.m.-12:55 p.m. \nGuided Peony and Weigela Plot Tour Bus #3\, 12-1:55 p.m. \nEach guided tour is limited to 42 participants. A valid ticket must be presented to the tour bus. Please plan to arrive early\, so you do not miss your tour. The bus will not wait for late registrants. Bus pick-up and drop-off are outside the Oswald Visitor Center. Registration is non-refundable. \nBottled water and some light refreshments will be provided at the research plot.
