Five Garden Classes to Brighten Your Fall

We have a variety of classes this fall to help you decorate your home for the upcoming season, learn new skills and get answers to those nagging garden questions left over from this gardening season. Here are five garden classes to brighten your fall.

Explore the Art of Japanese Flower Arranging, Tuesday, Sept. 26, 7 to 8:30 p.m., at MSHS headquarters (2705 Lincoln Dr., Roseville, MN). Local designer Sue Bagge will explain the Japanese style of flower arranging. She’ll also demonstrate using fall flowers, branches and berries together to explore different styles to create fall arrangements for the home or for exhibition. One of the arrangements will be given away to a lucky attendee. Class fee: $15 MSHS members; $20 nonmembers. You can register here.

Make and Take: Kokedama with Fern, Tuesday, Oct. 3, 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. at MSHS headquarters. In Japanese, kokedama means moss ball, and this style of arrangement is hundreds of years old but has become increasingly popular. The moss ball is the focal and supporting point for a sculpted tree or plant which is then displayed on a platform or suspended from string with the plant growing out from the sphere. In this class, floral designer Jenn Hovland will guide you as you make your own kokedama with a fern. Class fee includes materials: $40 MSHS members; $45 nonmembers. Register here.

Make and Take: Autumn Wreath, Tuesday, Oct. 10, 6:30 to 8 p.m., at MSHS headquarters. Get creative this fall and design a one-of-a-kind wreath for your home. In this class, designer Jenn Hovland will show you how to use a wire wreath form, adding dried and fresh materials  to create a rich tapestry for an autumn display. Wreath materials may include moss, branches, magnolia leaves, boxwood, hydrangea, Echinacea, and other flowers that dry well. The class includes a brief demonstration, plus guided work time. Class fee includes materials, $52 MSHS members; $57 nonmembers. Register here.

Webinar: Introduction to Mushroom Cultivation, Tuesday, Oct. 17, 7 to 8 p.m. at your computer. No need to leave your house to learn about how to grow mushrooms from local expert Matt Ratliff.
