Gabriel Bump explores how his relationship with Lake Michigan changed after losing a friend. For another writer\, the water provided the freedom to explore a romance that would have been too complicated on land. Come dive for shipwrecks\, harvest manoomin\, and visit the disappearing ice caves. Witness the chickadees\, smelt\, and cattails\, but also zebra mussels\, factory runoff\, and algae. Volunteers will be there to help. Can’t make the sale? Drop off your plants early on the driveway at 345 10th Ave N. \nUMN Extension Master Gardeners will be on hand at the Sale to answer your questions on plant varieties\, gardening tips\, and how to avoid the spread of jumping worms. \n  \nWe are in need of more plants! Do you have any in your yard we can dig up for you?? \nDig nights are scheduled for May 31\, June 2\, and June 4. DESCRIPTION:The St. Anthony Park Garden Club’s annual plant sale will be Saturday\, June 6 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.\, rain or shine\, the same day as the SAP Art Fair. We will offer for sale a variety of edibles\, perennials\, annuals\, and houseplants as well as misc. garden supplies donated by our members.  \nThe sale is located outside on the north side of the St. Anthony Park Lutheran Church\, at the corner of Como Ave and Luther Place. The sale is a fundraiser for the club’s programs\, which include a scholarship to a U of MN Department of Horticultural Science undergraduate student and maintaining the plantings at the SAP library. We no longer dig plants from members’ gardens due to concerns about jumping worms. \n

DESCRIPTION:Join the Garden Club of Minneapolis for an enjoyable tour of the Normandale Japanese Garden with Cece Cope\, Japanese Garden Lead Volunteer.  This Japanese strolling garden  is over-flowing with Japanese garden elements:  a gated entrance\, multiple bridges\, stone lanterns\, shelters\, symbolic islands\, rocks\, streams and waterfalls. Plant materials\, though mostly not those used in Japan due to climate differences\, reflect the reserved use of flowering plants that is traditional in Japan. DESCRIPTION:There are over 100\,000 registered/named daylilies today!  We won’t have all of them but we will have a large variety of daylilies for you to choose from.  We sell them freshly dug and washed (bareroot) so they are ready for you to take home and plant.  These cultivars are well behaved clumping varieties and do not run like the orange kwanzo variety (we do have some well behaved clumping orange ones however).  Many colors and traits (colored edges\, eyes\, rippled edges\, etc.).  Something for everyone at great prices and members to answer your questions. \nEvent held at Bachman’s in the Heritage Room\, 6010 Lyndale Ave. S.\, Minneapolis\, MN \nCash/check/credit accepted. \nThe Daylily Society is a 501c3 organization.

SUMMARY:Community Pollinator Monitoring with Great River Greening
DESCRIPTION:We’re seeking volunteers to conduct independent pollinator\nmonitoring at several of our project sites. Volunteer monitors\nwill “adopt” a park and conduct 30-minute pollinator surveys\nindependently four to six times from July through\nSeptember. \nAt the trainings\, volunteers will learn to differentiate 4 general categories of pollinating insect and how to count them on the site of interest. SUMMARY:A Year in the Life of Honeybees: Beekeeping Certification Course
DESCRIPTION:Become a beekeeper in this seven-session hands-on class that meets on the third Sunday of the month while following the life of honeybees. The first class is Sunday\, April 19 and continues through October 18 unless otherwise noted. \nThis experiential class will cover the historic folklore\, agricultural politics and current sciences of sustainable beekeeping in northern climates. The seven-session class is designed for beginning beekeepers and will provide hands-on experience at each turning point of the season. Each session will focus on the changing tasks that are involved with keeping bees and will include one-on-one time with the hives\, guided by Hailey Kisch from Big Sky Acres. \nThe class meets the educational requirements for the WEI Beekeeping Certificate. To earn a WEI Certificate\, registrants must attend at least 6 of 7 classes. \nAll are welcome – WEI classes are open to everyone. \nInstructor Bio: Hailey Kisch dedicated to sustainability and food sovereignty\, with a B.S. in Soil and Water Science and an M.S. in Range Science from Montana State University. She applies this expertise on her farm outside Shafer\, where she and her husband\, Trevor\, raise their four children while focusing on sustainable farming practices. Starting with a small chicken coop and garden\, their farm now produces high-quality produce and pasture-raised animals\, all while preserving the land’s health for future generations. Education is key\, as Hailey and Trevor teach their children about soil health and resource preservation.

DESCRIPTION:Enjoy the best of summer on Tuesday nights at the Farm at the Arb with live music and chef-crafted pizza fired in outdoor pizza ovens! The Arboretum’s Chef Beth Fisher will create pre-ordered pizzas featuring farm-fresh vegetables\, greens and herbs while visitors relax under the summer skies\, play yard games and listen to the music. And there is a pop-up bar for soda\, beer & wine\, plus the ice cram cart! Guests need an admission ticket that is at least 30 mins prior to their pizza time slot in addition to the pizza order. Pizzas are ready for pickup at the time of the pizza ticket ordered.
