New Home for MSHS Booth and Educational Display
The Minnesota State Fair has moved our retail/membership booth and our educational display this year. You'll now find us in "The Dirt" wing, next to the north hall, in the Ag/Hort Building. The Dirt wing is also the location of the educational stage. Don't leave the building without stopping in to say "Hi." The Fair is always a great time to join or renew your membership. Our educational display will feature a large display of herbs—all potted and labeled for easy identification. Check it out.
Membership
Every year at the MN State Fair, MSHS has a special membership offer; this year, fair patrons who renew their MSHS membership or become new members will receive an exclusive gardening gift for joining. Memberships will be sold at our booth in the Ag./Hort. Building.
Educational Display
Located in the Ag./Hort. Building, the MSHS educational display has lots of information to offer all levels of gardeners. This year's theme is herbs.
Retail Booth
Along with selling memberships at our booth in the Ag./Hort. Building, we will be selling a wide-variety of t-shirts and gardening books, as well as gloves, garden gifts, hats, small tools, and the ever popular Minnesota Gardening calendar, which we will be selling for $13.99 as a State Fair special.
Volunteer
People who volunteer at the Fair for MSHS receive free admission. MSHS depends on its volunteers to make our presence at the Minnesota State Fair a success. Visit the Volunteer Page to view the volunteer schedule and contact Diane Duvall, Volunteer Coordinator to sign up for a shift: 651-643-3601 ext. 208
MSHS State Fair Gardens
Make sure and stop by the Agriculture/Horticulture building to see the Minnesota State Horticultural Society Adopt-A-Garden. This late summer garden peaks during the fair. It is home to a waterfall feeding two streams that end in a central pond, a bubbler fountain in a large boulder, and two pondless falls at the patio level. Some of the plant material in the garden changes every year. The mission of the garden is to provide a showcase for plants suitable for a colorful garden in the fall. It includes late summer blooming perennials and annuals that provide color up to frost. A recent addition includes Ageratum Meadow, bred by David Zlesak. The garden also includes a raised bed to demonstrate how seniors and people with movement limitations can continue to garden. Our volunteer gardener will be available for questions throughout the fair. Many thanks to the Saint Anthony Park Garden Club for their tireless volunteer contributions to the gardens.
